The star-studded Cup winners defeated their German rivals, Alba Berlin, on Thursday evening with a score of 80:68 (36:44).
In the Munich BMW Park, Sylvain Francisco led the way for Munich with 17 points on a night that once again celebrated the greatest success in German basketball history. Before the tip-off, players such as Obst (8 points), Isaac Bonga (11), and the still recovering Niels Giffey, along with Alba's captain Thiemann (12), were specially honored.
The Gold Boys of the German Basketball Federation received gold-black basketballs as mementos from President Ingo Weiss of the DBB, Bayern President Herbert Hainer, Managing Director Marko Pesic, and record national player Patrick Femerling.
At the start of the game, Alba made a strong impression, repeatedly stealing the ball from Bayern and scoring reliably in the paint. Thiemann quickly reached ten points, Bonga excelled in rebounding, and Obst was sharp from beyond the three-point line. Although Bayern dominated on the offensive boards due to their size advantage, with star addition Serge Ibaka returning, the more alert and agile guests surprisingly pulled ahead by halftime.
However, Bayern did not take this lying down, going on a 14-2 run right at the beginning of the third quarter to take the lead. Bayern's playmaker Francisco stepped up, hitting shots from all angles, while their dominance in rebounds played into their hands, preventing Berlin from making a comeback even in the final quarter.
